Southaven, Mississippi. August 25, 2025. The American comedy community is in mourning following the tragic death of Reginald “Reggie” Carroll, a 52-year-old stand-up comedian, who was fatally shot in Southaven, Mississippi, on August 20.
According to Southaven police, officers responded to reports of a shooting on Burton Lane on Wednesday evening. Despite life-saving measures at the scene, Carroll succumbed to his injuries. Authorities have confirmed that a male suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. The suspect’s identity has not been publicly disclosed as investigations remain ongoing.
Carroll, affectionately known as the “Knockout King of Comedy,” enjoyed a career spanning more than two decades. He appeared on Showtime at the Apollo and the sitcom The Parkers, produced the 2023 stand-up special Knockout Kings of Comedy, and acted in the 2022 TV movie Rent & Go.
Tributes have poured in from across the entertainment world. Academy Award-winning actress and comedian Mo’Nique, a close collaborator, described Carroll as her “brother in comedy,” saying:
“Our time together was amazing. Reggie’s light and laughter touched so many lives, and his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.”
Carroll’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, expressed gratitude for the public’s support:
“We thank everyone for their love and prayers during this difficult time. Reggie was not only a comedian, but a son, brother, and friend to many.”
The Mobtown Comedy Club in Baltimore, a venue where Carroll frequently performed, also issued a statement honoring him as a “pillar of the comedy community.”
As authorities continue their investigation, Carroll is being remembered for his wit, charisma, and dedication to spreading laughter.
