NPC Registers 10 Million Children in Three Months

 

The National Population Commission (NPC) has achieved a significant milestone in its drive to enhance civil registration across Nigeria, registering over 10 million children within three months. This groundbreaking effort is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at ensuring every child has access to essential rights and services, including education, healthcare, and legal protection.

In Sokoto State alone, the NPC registered 300,182 children between October and November 2024, surpassing its target of 238,289 by an impressive margin of 61,893. Similarly, in Zamfara State, the commission has embarked on an ambitious e-registration exercise, aiming to register over 217,000 unregistered children aged 0-5 years by the end of December. These efforts underscore the NPC's commitment to eradicating birth registration gaps and strengthening Nigeria’s civil registration and vital statistics system.

The use of electronic birth registration has been a game-changer, enabling faster and more accurate data collection. This system not only simplifies the registration process but also ensures data security and accessibility, aligning with global best practices.

Birth registration is more than a bureaucratic requirement; it provides children with a legal identity, securing their rights to citizenship and protection.
