$150m Aluminium, Copper Recycling Plant Commences Operations in Ogun

 

A new $150 million aluminium and copper recycling plant has officially begun operations in Ogun State, marking a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive toward industrial sustainability and economic diversification. The facility, established through a public-private partnership between the Ogun State Government and Neveah Limited, is projected to generate over $150 million in annual revenue and contribute approximately 2.5% to Nigeria’s non-oil export earnings.

Strategically located near Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, the plant is expected to create more than 500 direct jobs, primarily for young people, and significantly boost the socio-economic development of the state and surrounding regions. The facility boasts a production capacity of 36,000 metric tons of aluminium and 8,100 metric tons of copper annually, serving both domestic and international markets across Europe, North America, Asia, and Africa.

Speaking during the launch, representatives of Neveah Limited emphasized the plant’s role in reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported raw materials and increasing foreign exchange earnings through sustainable exports. Beyond its economic impact, the plant is designed with a strong environmental focus. It is projected to cut carbon emissions by 377,460 tons annually—comparable to removing 82,000 cars from the road—and conserve 616 million kilowatt-hours of energy, enough to power over 57,000 homes yearly.

Additionally, the recycling facility will help divert more than 55,000 metric tons of scrap from landfills, contributing significantly to environmental preservation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun praised the initiative as a reflection of Ogun State’s growing reputation as a prime investment destination, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to policies that foster innovation, sustainability, and industrial growth.
